Happenings in Children's Books!

So true!

Have you ever visited a library during Preschooler Story Time? Caught a glimpse of enthused and mesmerized little faces? Aside from the excitement and pleasure of getting captivated by a story, studies have proven that reading to toddlers and preschoolers develops their learning, speech, and communication skills.

When I was a child, my grandmother would take me out to the "Five and Dime" (if anyone remembers them), treat me to hot chocolate (or ice cream) and a Little Golden Book. Every once in a while, I pull out my tattered copy of "The Pokey Little Puppy." My grandmother loved books and passed on that joy to me. Since children's books, and the values they sometimes teach, impress me, I keep up to date with what's happening in children's literature.

Here are several releases that may be of interest to the little ones in your life. I've included a brief portion of the book's blurb, along with Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and BAM Buy Links.

Mango, Abuela, and Me by Meg Medina (author) and Angela Dominguez (illustrator)

When a little girl’s far-away grandmother comes to stay, love and patience transcend language in a tender story written by acclaimed author Meg Medina.

Greetings, Autumn, So Glad You're Here!

This week we usher in Autumn, 2015.  Autumn, or Fall (as some folks call it), is my favorite time of the year. It’s a picturesque season full of crispy air, gorgeous, colorful leaves, apple cider, pumpkin spice coffee, cupcakes and muffins, and harvest festivals. I enjoy the last Saturdays of flea markets, walking through my South Philly neighborhood, admiring how people have decorated their homes not only with Autumn wreaths and acorns, but scarecrows and pumpkins for Halloween!

Do you enjoy Autumn as much as I do. What excites you the most about the season? Please feel free to share your favorite Autumn activity!

Have a great week, Everyone!

A Visit to "The Write Way Cafe!"

On August 4th, the digital version of Magic Moment became part of Amazon Encore. What is Amazon Encore? Says Amazon: “Discover Hidden Treasures. Amazon Encore helps readers discover extraordinary, previous published, overlooked books from emerging authors.”

In celebration, I was thrilled to be a guest at The Write Way Cafe, reminiscing about taking "creative liberties" while writing.  For your reading pleasure, I've included the link to the post.

Heartfelt appreciation to HiDee and Lynn for their always gracious hospitality, and "thank you" to the readers who stopped by for a visit.

Have a good week, Everyone.

The "unofficial" End of Summer!

Although the calendar tells us a few more weeks remain of Summer, the Labor Day holiday weekend generally means the end of the season for most folks. Almost everyone has finished their summer vacations at the Jersey shore. In Philly, all of our school children will be back in their classrooms by this Wednesday.

So, Friends, enjoy the last holiday of the Summer of 2015. Relax, be happy, and most of all, be safe!

Have a good week, Everyone!
