Is There a Contest in Your Future?

Everyone knows how fond (and supportive) I am of writers' contests.  Aside from the excitement that goes with a possible win, the critques and feedbacks are invaluable.  My January 27, 2013 post ( detailed how entering Magic Moment in a contest, although I didn't win, helped me on my road to having the novel published.

I promised to update the contest list periodically.  Here are a few that you might want to check out. And, a big thank you to those who give up their time, volunteering as judges.  Your feedback is appreciated.

Writers Conferences are valuable components to the business of being a writer.  They are not only great opportunities to meet those we can learn from, but fabulous networking occasions with fellow writers and readers.

After being asked, I've offered copies of Magic Moment for gift baskets or "goodie bags" to several upcoming (and one past) event.

A big "thank you" to From The Heart Romance Writer member, Marlie Bridges.  Marlie does a great job of keeping her fellow members informed on the various RWA chapter networking events, conferences, workshops, and contests.  We're grateful, Marlie!

Happy Birthday, Grandmom!

As many of you know, either from talking with me or reading an interview I've done, my grandmother was a big influence in my writing life.  She was the one person who always read my childhood, handwritten stories.  She bought me my first typewriter (probably because she was tired of decrypting my handwriting -- which hasn't improved much over the years).  I still have some tattered paperbacks on my bookshelf that she passed on to me, along with her opinion, once she'd finished reading them.

From "Grandmom," I inherited two life-long passions, reading and the Philadelphia Phillies.

My grandmother passed away in 1998, a few weeks before her 91st birthday.  She left a paperback, complete with bookmark halfway through, on her night table.  Today, April 7th, is her birthday.  And, I'm sometimes sad that she wasn't here to see my first novel, Magic Moment, published.  Or to have gone through the process with me.  "Grandmom" would have made a great critique partner.

So, "happy birthday, Grandmom!  Wherever you are, I know you have a paperback on your night you tinker with your Kindle or Nook!"
