Those of you who answered my call for book suggestions, emailed me their recommendations.  I thought I'd share those comments with you.

Contemporary Romance:
Bared to YouA Crossfire Novel by Sylvia Day
Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire

Category Romance:
Montana Cowboy by Jillian Hart
Expecting a Miracle by Jackie Braun

Historical Romance:
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

General Fiction:
Silent Mercy by Linda Fairstein

Thank you so much...I need some reading material while taking a few days for some R&R.

Since most of my readers are heading out to California for the annual RWA Conference, I won't be blogging until August (which is really only a week away).  I look forward to hearing about your conference experiences.  Good luck to all, and have fun!

Read Any Good Books Lately?

I have some down time between writing projects.  Every book I've picked up to read during the week, I've put down by the third chapter.  It simply hadn't held my interest.

Has anyone read a great book recently?  I'm open to suggestions.

Thanks.

Shout Out, New Author!

When I started this blog, I wanted to focus on authors, books, and publishing.  Well, I want to give a “shout out” to a new author, Mary K. Norris.  Published by Crimson Romance, Mary’s first novel, a Paranormal Romance release, is Silent as the Grave.

By the way, Crimson is the new ebook romance imprint from F&W Media, the parent company of Adams Media, Writer’s Digest, Writer’s Market, and others.  The Crimson line debuted on June 4, 2012.  New titles are released every week.  Silent as the Grave was released on July 9th.

BLURB:
Hard-edged Cali Crazar is determined to succeed in a world that’s been less than giving. Fierce and protective Felix Del Valle is sent to Cali’s aid when a member of his guild catches a glimpse of the future where Cali is endangered.

Felix is an Eraser, someone with the ability to make objects vanish with a wave of his hand. Cali is a Silencer, a manipulator of sound, and has no idea of the world she has yet to uncover. As if trying to get Cali to believe she possesses supernatural abilities isn’t hard enough, Felix must also explain to her that she is his destined soul mate. Even Felix has a hard time believing he’s met his Mirror Mate, but when he first lays eyes on her the attraction is instant. As is the danger.

Together they must stop a power hungry corporate owner who fuels his multi-million dollar company by exploiting others with supernatural abilities. But the clock is ticking when Felix and Cali discover that Cali is the next target and the man after her is looking to use her for more than just money. It turns out she could be his one chance at eternal youth and power.

Silent as the Grave is Book one in Mary’s Guild of Truth series.  She lives in Southern California.  Aside from creating wild, ingenious characters in her mystical world, she holds a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology (which, I suspect, contributed to all the physical action in her novel).

Mary is also a RWA member and a member of my online chapter, From the Heart Romance Writers.

Another Awesome Author, Another Fantastic Friend

Vonnie Davis, is one of my chapter mates with my Romance Writers of America chapter, From the Heart Romance Writers (more about these fantastic folks later).

When it comes to the business side of writing, I’m a novice.  When it comes to computer technology, I’m illiterate.  I can’t remember the specific question I had asked our From the Heart Romance Writers’ members, but Vonnie was the first to get back to me with advice.  She’s continue to advise and support me ever since.  Not only did she offer suggestions on promoting “Burgers and Hot Chocolate” in Winter Wonders, she interviewed me on her blog.
In June 2011 The Wild Rose Press released Vonnie’s first novel, Storm’s Interlude.

BLURB:
Nurse Rachel Dennison comes to Texas determined to prepare her new patient for a second round of chemo. What she isn’t counting on is her patient’s twin brother, Storm Masterson. Despite her initial attraction, Storm has two things Rachel can’t abide: a domineering personality and a fiancĂ©e. Half Native American, with the ability to have "vision dreams," Storm dreams about Rachel for three nights before her arrival. Both are unprepared for the firestorm of emotions their first encounter ignites. Ultimately, it is Rachel’s past—an abusive, maniacal ex-boyfriend—that threatens to keep them apart…and Storm’s dreams that bring them together again.

Nominated for 2011 Book of the Year by The Long and Short Reviews, Storm’s Interlude was also a finalist for the Virginia Romance Writers HOLT Medallion Award in the category of Best Book by a Virginia Author and Best Mainstream/Single Title.
I’m excited to announce that just last week The Wild Rose Press released Vonnie’s  novella, Those Violet Eyes, part of the “Honkey Tonk Hearts” series.

     BLURB:

Evie Caldwell hates her life. Five years ago, she gave up college and her dream of teaching to care for her ailing mother. Now, she's trapped taking care of her worthless brother and the family ranch. Waiting tables to earn her way out of Texas, the last thing she wants is a muscleman with a macho Marine attitude complicating her life. But, oh, how that man makes her insides melt.
Wounded vet Win Fairchild returns to Texas to heal, find a piece of his soul, and open a ranch for amputee children. Finding someone to love is not on his agenda. But when he starts work at the Lonesome Steer Honky Tonk, a spitfire with violet eyes and a major attitude instantly captures his heart.

Evie just wants to escape, but now that Win knows what he wants, can he convince Evie to stay in Texas—and his bed?

Awesome Author, Fantastic Friend

There is a saying that goes something like this, “old friends are the best friends.”  I’d like to include “former critique partners make for long lasting friends.”

Karen Rose Smith (along with The Wild Rose Press author, Liana Laverentz) was my critique partner back in the early 1990s before she was the “multi-published Karen Rose Smith.”  Before Microsoft, the internet, and email, Karen, Liana and I belonged to a writer’s organization and were part of what we called a “critique exchange.”  Using typewriters, photocopiers, and the U.S. postal service, we mailed our monthly chapters to each other for comments/suggestions/opinions.  Although life, other challenges, and adventures broke up the critiquing, I’m so happy to say that the friendships prevailed.
I still have Karen’s first published novel, A Man Worth Loving (still my favorite title, too) published in 1992 by Meteor Publishing for their Kismet Romance Line.  Inside the copy Karen had sent me, she had written a beautiful, heartfelt sentiment and authographed the book.  A few years ago, when I was packing to move out of my apartment, I pulled the book off the shelf, stopped to read the sentiment, and with tears in my eyes, passed it over to my friend who was helping me pack.
Karen’s titles are too numerous to mention in the space allotted here, and she’s branched out into other writing avenues.  (Check out her mystery website listed below).
I still get excited whenever I’m browsing in a bookstore and see one of Karen’s books on the shelf which was exactly what happened this past weekend at CVS.  Karen’s latest Harlequin Special Edition release, available this month, is The CEO’s Unexpected Proposal.  It’s Book 3 in the “Reunion Bride Series.”

BLURB:

After losing his wife in a tragic accident, successful businessman Dawson Barrett was determined to help his son, Luke, who was dealing with his pain by acting out at school and at home. Luckily, the devoted dad knew just who to call....

As talented as she was beautiful, music therapist Mikala Conti could work miracles. To her, the real miracle was that Dawson-the boy who'd once stirred her teenage heart, then vanished-was back in town. Still, Mikala wasn't sure Dawson was ready to move on. And she certainly didn't believe that one reckless moment of passion could change their lives forever. But it might just be the way to heal three troubled souls searching for a second chance at a forever family.

More information on The CEO's Unexpected Proposal can be found at

I'm excited that Book Four in the series, Riley’s Baby Boy, will be available in August.

BLURB:

After one torrid night at their high school reunion, Riley O'Rourke thought his torch for Brenna McDougall had finally been extinguished. But after she appeared on his doorstep—with his infant son, no less!—it was clear that the flames of passion sizzled hotter than ever.

Brenna knew that Riley was all wrong for her. But one encounter with her secret love plunged her back into his life for keeps. She hadn't bargained on their long-muffled chemistry being as explosive as ever. Or that the old feud still simmering between his family and hers could threaten their new family...and their rekindled romance.

Along with the current and upcoming release, Book One, His Daughter…Their Child, and Book Two, Once Upon A Groom, remain available through Amazon www.amazon.com and Barnes & Noble www.barnesandnoble.com

And guess what else is available through Amazon?  A Man Worth Loving.  It's a great book!

Catch up with Karen:
